Today the Arizona Legislature convenes for a new session. I first created this cartoon in 2005 and, sadly, have not had to change a single word since.
Arizonans have a strange capacity for electing leaders who have extremist (even wacky) views that often makes our state the laughingstock of the nation.
Worse, our lawmakers continue to cause real damage. The same issues seem to dominate each session – school funding, immigration, gay rights, taxes, guns. It’s a contest to see if they can top the previous year’s actions in these areas.
But this year there is hope things could change, thanks to voters who actually elected a few more sane people last November.
Still, many Arizonans consider the legislature a joke, hence the clown imagery.
