Ratings: Santa kind to ‘K-E-Z’ while KOOL gets lump of coal

Classic hits KOOL’s experiment to challenge the annual Christmastime dominance of “K-E-Z” fell flat in the first of two ratings periods that reflected the stations’ wall-to-wall holiday music programming.

According to the latest Nielsen Audio’s ratings for metro Phoenix, “K-E-Z” was #1 again, while KOOL dropped from eighth place to tie at #11. The challenger did manage to put a dent in the champ’s audience share, with “K-E-Z” tying its smallest December share in three years. (We’re not allowed to post actual numbers, so we must rely on general descriptions.)

KSLX (#2), “Mix” (#4) and KNIX (#6) improved audience share, while all the others in the top 10 declined or were unchanged. “Alt AZ” held steady with its slice of the listener pie, but it was enough to move back into the top 10, just as the station announced the departure of program director Nancy Stevens after two years.

Live” (KALV) dropped to #13 after tying at #10 last time.
